In the school environment, learning to speak an additional language can be challenging enough without having to learn to write it as well.  This followed by ever deeper dissection of the language with grammar rules, phonic rules, comprehension and language structure as the grades progress and the task can appear insurmountable.

Google translate has a ‘listen’  facility for a word that it translates, which can assist with the understanding of phonics and pronunciation.
